What's Vietnam Investor Visa (ĐT Visa)

A Vietnam Investor Visa, also known as a ĐT Visa, is a type of visa issued to foreign investors who invest capital in Vietnamese companies or organizations. It allows foreign investors to stay in Vietnam for an extended period to manage their investments and contribute to the country's economic development.

Holders of an Investor visa to Vietnam can:

  • Apply for a Vietnam temporary card which is valid for up to 10 years,
  • Sponsor their spouse/children to get Vietnam TT visa if their visa is symbolized as ĐT1, ĐT2 or ĐT3, and
  • Extend the visa for long-term residency in Vietnam based on the amount of investment.
  • Simplifies the process for managing and overseeing investments in Vietnam.
  • Usually includes multiple entry privileges, allowing investors to travel in and out of Vietnam without needing to reapply for a visa each time.

Types of Vietnam Investor Visa

There are four main types of ĐT Visas, categorized based on the amount of capital invested:

    • ĐT1 Visa: For investors who contribute capital of VND 100 billion (approximately USD 4.3 million) or more, or invest in specific industries and projects prioritized by the Vietnamese government.
      Validity: Up to 10 years.
    • ĐT2 Visa: For investors who contribute capital between VND 50 billion and VND 100 billion (approximately USD 2.15 million to USD 4.3 million), or invest in industries and projects encouraged by the Vietnamese government.
      Validity: Up to 5 years.
    • ĐT3 Visa: For investors who contribute capital between VND 3 billion and VND 50 billion (approximately USD 130,000 to USD 2.15 million).
      Validity: Up to 3 years.
    • ĐT4 Visa: For investors who contribute capital below VND 3 billion (approximately USD 130,000).
      Validity: Up to 1 year. 

Document requirements

1. Investment Documents:

    • Business Registration Certificate: This document proves your company's legal existence in Vietnam.
    • Investment Registration Certificate: This certificate verifies your investment project's approval by the Vietnamese authorities.
    • Financial Statements: These statements demonstrate your company's financial health and ability to support your investment project. This may include audited financial reports, bank statements, or other relevant documents.
    • Documents Proving Capital Contribution: Evidence of your investment in the Vietnamese project. This could be bank transfer receipts, investment contracts, or other documents outlining the invested capital.

2. Personal Documents:

    • Valid Passport: Your passport must have a minimum validity period of at least six months beyond your intended arrival date in Vietnam, with sufficient blank pages for visa stamping.
    • Visa Application Form: This form needs to be filled out accurately and completely. The form may be available online or in paper format depending on the application method.
    • Two Passport-Sized Photographs: The photos should meet the specific size and format requirements outlined by the Vietnamese authorities.

3. Additional Documents:

    • Proof of Financial Means: Documents demonstrating your financial capability to support yourself during your stay in Vietnam. This could include personal bank statements, pay slips, or other relevant proof.
    • Letter of Invitation (if applicable): If you have a Vietnamese partner company involved in the investment project, they might provide a letter of invitation to support your visa application.

How to apply Vietnam Investor Visa

STEP 1: DETERMINE THE APPRIORIATE VISA CATEGORY

Determine which type of ĐT Visa you qualify for based on your investment amount

STEP 2: PREPARE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Gather the necessary documentation. 

    STEP 3: SUBMIT APPLICATION

    You can submit your application through one of the following methods:

    • Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate: Submit your application at the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in your home country.
    • Vietnam Immigration Department: If you are already in Vietnam, you can submit your application directly to the Vietnam Immigration Department.

    STEP 4: PAY THE VISA FEE

    Pay the applicable visa processing fee. The fee varies based on the type of visa and the processing speed. Ensure you get a receipt for the payment.

    STEP 5: WAIT FOR PROCESSING

    The processing time can vary but generally takes a few weeks. During this period, the authorities will review your application and verify your documents.

    STEP 6: RECEIVE YOUR INVESTOR VISA

    Once approved, you will receive your ĐT Visa. If you applied through an embassy or consulate, you might need to collect your visa in person or have it mailed to you. If you applied within Vietnam, you can collect it from the Immigration Department.

    STEP 7: RECEIVE YOUR INVESTOR VISA

    STEP 8: ENTER VIETNAM

    With your ĐT Visa, you can now enter Vietnam and start or continue your investment activities. Ensure you comply with any reporting or compliance requirements set by Vietnamese authorities during your stay.
